Short biography for press
Margharet (Margaret Manzano) is a contemporary Catalan artist specializing in large-format abstraction, under the personal signature she defines as “elegant abstraction.” She began her training at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Barcelona at the age of 15. Already as a teenager she excelled in sculpture and ceramics. She forgoes the brush: she works with her hands, with sticks and with precision needles of up to 0.25 mm, and uses up to five tones of gold, including 24-karat gold leaf. Her work is organized into different lines, among them Oniriks, large-format pieces inspired by Fabergé eggs. Her work is held in numerous private collections. She is also a recognized collector of antique textiles and has actively taken part in awareness campaigns to recover textiles and protect them; her holdings include Manila shawls from the 19th and 20th centuries and singular pieces of every kind. She lives in Castelldefels and is currently working on her first book.
